I went there with my girlfriend and the staff took really good care of us, especially the Italian owner and maitre Gian Luca and the very skilled bartender Simone, who provided us with a really nice couple of drinks! The icing on the cake was the gleeful smirk and "Xie Xie Zaijian" (Thanks and Good-bye) shouted from the Italian waiter to us at the door, even while the Chinese staff was trying to be helpful. She was a delight, very respectful, and apologized profusely for our experience. ![]() It's my Saturday evening and money, and I did not feel comfortable dining with such wait staff. We simply told her our waiter was being a rude and supreme prick, and we will be dining elsewhere. Alas that Wagas is everywhere, and Eatalia is not. And Eatalia's pricing puts Wagas to shame. When I walked into Eatalia for the first time, I realized that everything about this place is the reason why I go back to Wagas, still hopeful despite being sorely disappointed time and time again. And something deep in my subconscious tells me that I'm at a fast-food joint and I should get out. There's something missing from Wagas' food. I have not spoken to him personally, but the reason I write here and now is because it is evident that we both believe actions speak louder than words, his actions evident in the restaurant he has created.Īs a conflicted Wagas regular, I feel disappointed every time I go to Wagas. This is a no-nonsense restaurant with a classic menu, deep-value pricing, and an owner-operator who isn't in the business like so many others for profit maximization, but to create a wonderful experience for his guests. It is an environment highly suitable for conversation, relaxing, and hanging out. There is nothing to distract you from the beautiful food that is served, save perhaps your beautiful date or a group of your old friends. The quality of ingredients is supported by excellent recipe execution, professional service, and a cosy ambiance. Polo to live in 21st Century Beijing, surely he would be a regular here.
